When I view a formal presentation, I expect a cohesive flow of concise and relevant information because that, to me, seems to be a very efficient form of communication. I suppose I also expect fairly standard dress so that I can infer from the presenter that he not only takes his work seriously but also wants me to take it seriously too. This goal can also be contributed to by using more universally understood material in the presentation itself. For example, referring to a specific aspect of current popular culture to illustrate a key point of the presentation would be distracting for me for two reasons: I would probably not fully understand the application of the reference, and I would also be aware of the speaker's narrow assumptions about the audience. To expound on the issues of that last point, let me suggest that a virtue of presenting information is its ability to relate to the audience. If it becomes apparent that the presenter has limited the scope of the examples and references to fit a smaller demographic, either intentionally or otherwise, then he or she has demonstrated that such a virtue is of less concern to them than their own apparently specialized viewpoint, which may very well manifest itself in other aspects of the presentation. I think my main point with this is that it casts doubt on the credibility of the research and information presented, since it shows a propensity toward selectiveness rather than more widely relatable impartiality.
I like the set up of your blog, it is really organized and it clearly demonstrates the purpose of the blog. Also, sick cat pic.
ReplyDeleteI'm a huge fan of the cat pic. And also the coordination between the color of the cat and the color of the blog. And also the black eyes of the cat and the black text of the blog. And also the nonplussed look of the cat and the nonplussed tone of your writing. Props.
ReplyDeleteI like the background, but I know that it is the default background so maybe it could use a little work. If you go to "template" on the side tab you can choose from a variety of different customized templates. Good luck!
ReplyDeletethat cat is great, it tells the reader that you are caring and compassionate. maybe change the color scheme to reflect the cuteness emanating from the kitten's eyes
ReplyDeleteI agree with all your presentation points. I like the idea of a cat background but some of your cat's head are cut off...
